Pioneer camp is the most relaxing lodge around Lusaka. We offer 9 individual, thatched chalets and a beautiful 2 bedroomed cottage each set within our 25 acres of miombo woodland. You can walk around the property, which is surprisingly good for birds.

The chalets range from simple stylish comfort to the highest levels of luxury expected at any top Safari Lodge. All ensuite chalets have verandahs with lovely woodland views and are very private.

Only 14 kms (20 mins) from the Airport or shopping centres of Arcades and Manda Hill Pioneer is the last Oasis stopover on the way to South Luangwa and Malawi. The ideal place to start when visiting Zambia..

At the centre of the Pioneer Camp is the open thatched bar/restaurant or ‘Chitenge’. This is for residents’ only and is open from 0700 until 2300 every day. Coffee and Tea are always available here but, along with drinks from the bar, can be brought to your chalet if requested. Hosted mainly be Alfred, this is the place to exchange tales of adventure with fellow travellers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here. Pioneer Camp is well known for the candle lit braai meals served in the evenings – in particular the tasty 500gm T-bones!


There is a recreation area with swimming pool, table tennis, billiards etc. A library of informative books
about the wildlife, fauna and flora of Zambia alone with books about other parts of Africa and holiday novels.


The campsite and simple chalets share charcoal-heated showers (hot water at all times). The Safari Chalets with their private bathrooms and terraces are a minutes walk from the Main Camp offer a high level of privacy and face out to offer a beautiful view of the Zambian countryside. The whole area is surrounded by an unobtrusive electric fence to ensure complete security.
